Learn 2 Curl

This year we have three amazing opportunites to learn how to curl!  No experience is necessary to join these learning events.. 

  • We have three upcoming Learn To Curl events this spring, 2025!  These are individual evenings where our instructors will walk you through how to play the sport, including sweeping, sliding, scoring, and everything in between.  These are two hour long sessions, and you will get a chance to play a shortened game while you are there.

 

  • LOOKING FOR MORE??  Register for our 4 week Instructional League that begins in April 2025.  This format is set up for both first time curlers and those who are looking for a shorter and more casual league experience.  You can choose to do the one night learn to curl first before committing to the learning league.

March 12th Learn-To-Curl - 2025

This is a Learn To Curl event open to the public!  This will be a two hour event starting at 7:00PM and ending at 9:00PM on Wednesday March 12th, 2025.  This will be hosted at The NTPRD Chiller in Springfield Ohio.  This event has a capacity of 32 individuals including parents and children.  

 

March 19th Learn-To-Curl - 2025

Learn to Curl FAQ

Learn to Curls are very introductory and laid back, but there are a couple of things that you need to consider or bring before you come.

  • Clean shoes 
    Shoes are the most important thing to consider.  Hard soled boots and dress shoes aren't typically good choices, but carefully consider how your shoes behave when they get cold.  After standing on the ice for a while the rubber on your shoes will get cold.  Some shoes react well to this, and some get very slippery.  We do ask that whatever shoes you bring are clean, and the ice surface for curling is very temperamental to dirt and debris.  Once the ice starts to get dirty, it is hard to keep it in good curling condition.

 

  • Dress for Weather
    We can't really tell you what the weather conditions are going to be like for your learn to curl.  Our indoor venues are all climate controlled, however they are ice facilities and are going to be colder than a normal climate controlled building.  Our outdoor facilities like RiverScape are very subject to the weather, so dress appropriately for each days weather forecast.  

 

  • Dress Comfortably
    Despite the need to dress for the weather, you also need to dress for comfort.  You will be crouching down and moving around a lot.  Comfortable clothes are a must.

 

  • Minimum Age
    There is really no minimum age, but we ask parents to consider that the stones do weigh 42 pounds and will be difficult for younger children to work with.  We suggest a minimum age of 12, but will allow younger as long as they wear a helmet while on the ice.  A bike helmet works well for this.  Participants under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult both on and off the ice.  We currently do not have a set of junior stones, but are working to develop a junior program.

 

  • Spectators
    Spectators are welcome to attend and watch any of our curling sessions from Learn to Curls to Leagues.  Spectator areas are different at each venue and some are more comfortable than others.  Spectators are not allowed on the ice except in very rare instances.  We ask that before spectators enter the ice that they ask Curl Troy staff for permission.

Riverscape Appropriate Attire

If you are new to our outdoor curling, please be aware to dress appropriately!


It's winter! It could be 40 degrees one day, and 10 degrees the next.   Dress in layers;  you can always peel some off when you get warm, but when the wind really starts blowing off the river, you'll be glad you have a hat, an extra set of gloves, and some super thick socks. 

Wear comfortable athletic shoes with soft rubber soles (sneakers work great!)  The harder the sole of the shoe, the slicker they will feel on the ice and the more likely you will slip and fall.

Riverscape Weather Alerts

Playing outdoors can be unpredictable at times, and if the temp rises above 55F, we may have to cancel the games for that evening.

We will work hard to communicate this to you as quickly as possible on the day of your game, and if you ever have any doubts, don't hesitate to reach out and ask. The best way to stay informed is to watch your inbox for updates!

About The Club

Curl Troy is a group of curling enthusiasts interested in grow the sport of curling in the Dayton, Ohio area.  Started in 2010 shortly after the Vancouver Olympics by a group of friends who simply got "hooked" on the game after trying it, Curl Troy has continued to grow and currently conducts operations at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton, Ohio and in Springfield Ohio at the NTPRD Chiller
